During the explosion on August 4th, 2020, our Lebanese Hospital Geitoui was badly damaged, there was massive destruction of our buildings, equipment and infrastructure.
The previous renovation of the hospital, which amounted to a high 8-digit amount, could only be made possible by the generous help of donors and friends, especially since the insolvency of the sector since October 2019 has made it no longer possible to access loans from the Lebanese banks. Thanks to these donations, we were able to carry out the most necessary renovation work at the time.
However, in order to provide our patients with the best possible medical care and our patients with the best possible medical care and our almost 110 medical students with the best possible training, it is of great importance and urgency to renovate the specialist departements of oncology, pediatrics, the maternity ward and the intensive care unit for newborns in our hospital and as quickly as possible to be able to reopen. It goes without saying that these departements are of great importance to the hospital community and to a large group of affected patients and that the presence of these departements is an essential part of delivering comprehensive and holistic patient-centred care.
With regard to our medical students, it must be explained that the renovation and rehabilitation of the currently closed departements is essential. This is the only way we can ensure that our students receive the best possible education and do not leave the country after their studies, but can continue to support Lebanon with excellent medical care. The focus of Hospitals Geitaoui is on well-trained and educated doctors, which has a very high shortage of skilled workers, mainly in the field of medicine/health/care. This is the only way to ensure that the infrastructure and development of this country have the opportunity to stabilize.
